The Bayfront Convention Center hosted its first quilting exhibition in mid-September, though it was not the show's first time. The 12th annual quilting show was previously held in Chautauqua, N.Y., at the Chautauqua Institution. Judy Fenton, owner of Millcreek Sewing & Fabric, brings classes and exhibits to the local convention center, at 1 Sassafras Pier.

Guest speakers this year at Quilting on the Bayfront were nationally renowned teachers Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company and Karen Combs. Fenton was looking forward to the event, calling it a "community project" for quilting fanatics. Five different quilting guilds, all volunteers, came together to create all of the display items.
