Fighting Scots head to IUP for military challenge

ROTC program shoots for gold

Edinboro's ROTC battalion, the Fighting Scots, are preparing for a trip Saturday, April 23, to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where the cadets will attempt to earn their German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. The badge is an internationally recognized merit received through participation in various intense challenges.

These challenges include: the flexed arm hang, 100-meter swim, pistol marksman challenge, 1000-meter sprint, timed relay, and a timed march. There will be three pre-set standards for each event (bronze, silver, and gold) based on the time an event was completed and the extent of success.

For about two months now, the cadets at Edinboro have endured daily physical conditioning and technical practices to make sure that no participant comes back empty handed. The event will also feature competitors from various schools' ROTC programs around the region, such as from Allegheny College, Slippery Rock University and more.
