On Sunday, March 20, the S.O.N.S. (Save Our Native Species) of Lake Erie held its 35th annual Ice Out Party at the Erie Shrine Club. The event is a fundraiser that is held each year in celebration of the end of the winter season and thawing of Lake Erie. The mission of the organization is to improve fishing on Lake Erie, the overall health of the lake and its tributaries, and actively promoting regulations to keep the waterways from becoming polluted.

There are more than 3,000 people who hold memberships in the organization and more than 600 were in attendance at the event. The cost of attendance was $10 for adults and $5 for children under 16. Funds were also raised through games of chance and auctions. Prizes were awarded throughout the day.

The event is held every year the Sunday before Easter. More information or membership can be gained by visiting the group's website at sonsoflakeerie.org.
