A little girl's wish comes true

Seven-year-old Abigail Cornman of Warren was surprised with a trip to Hawaii at Edinboro University Feb. 11.

Cornman had wanted to visit the sunny beaches of Hawaii when approached by Make-A-Wish. During the halftime event at the Edinboro women's basketball game against Indiana University, she was guided to the center of the court and presented with her wish. Edinboro's student athletes filtered onto the court one by one, bringing her gifts for her trip including luggage, sunscreen, passes to Splash Lagoon, and more. The audience congratulated Cornman enthusiastically, among them her mother, Bethiny Couse, and other recipients of the Make-A-Wish Foundation whose wishes had already been granted.

Couse remarked that her daughter thought the basketball game was her gift. She had been entirely unaware of the surprise, which made it all the better when Cornman was guided onto the court to have her wish granted. Cornman's family is excited to have this opportunity to relax, come early March, when they are set to go.

The wish was not the only thing presented during the basketball doubleheader. During the halftime event at the men's game, Edinboro presented Make-A-Wish with a check for about $608,000. In 2016 alone, Edinboro University raised more than $16,000 for the organization.
