Miletska, Kopacko Lead Fighting Scots In Loss to Indiana(Pa.)

EDINBORO, Pa. – Yana Miletska won three events and Kaitlyn Kopacko took home two, including a relay, to lead the Edinboro women's swimming team. Six different swimmers had qualifying times for the PSAC Championships as the women's swimming team fell to Indiana(Pa.) at home on Saturday, 111-93.

THE GAME STORY Score:  Edinboro 49, #17 Slippery Rock 39 Records:  Edinboro (5-3, 3-2 PSAC West), #17 Slippery Rock (6-2, 3-2 PSAC West)  Location:  Edinboro, Pa. – Sox Harrison Stadium The Short Story:  As the saying goes, last team with the ball wins. Edinboro outscored 17th-ranked Slippery Rock, 49-39, to remain undefeated at home and hand interim head coach Wayne Bradford his biggest victory. The two teams combined for over 1,100 yards in offense, but SRU had no answer for Walter Fletcher. The redshirt sophomore became the first Edinboro ballcarrier since 2004 to go over 1,000 yards in a season, and did it in a big way. He finished with 241 yards on 25 carries with 4 TDs. The four touchdowns covered 32, 9, 7, and 98 yards.

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Dig for a Cure was a success on all fronts as the Edinboro volleyball team swept through Mercyhurst, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19), while raising funds for the Roswell Park Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. on Saturday evening. With the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 15-7 on the season and 5-6 in the PSAC while the Lakers fall to 7-15 and 2-9 in the PSAC.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to upset Gannon on Friday night, 3-2, in a matchup of the top two teams in the PSAC Northwest Division. The Fighting Scots prevailed by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 26-24, and 15-12 to improve to 14-7 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC. The Lady Knights fell to 18-4 and 8-2, respectively.

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Four members of the Edinboro football team spent time on Monday at Elk Valley Elementary School, meeting with students in the second grade. The foursome was led by senior tight end Ryan Startton, who was recently named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, and included freshman defensive back DeAndre' Dowdell, redshirt freshman center Vitali Gurman, and sophomore defensive back Maurice Sims. They spoke with the second graders about teamwork and what it means to be part of a team, even making a video about team building.  The visit was featured on the Erie News Now sports segment that evening.

THE GAME STORY Score:  Edinboro 28, Mercyhurst 25 Records:  Edinboro (4-3, 2-2 PSAC West), Mercyhurst (3-4, 2-2 PSAC West)  Location:  Edinboro, Pa. – Sox Harrison Stadium The Short Story:  An opportunistic Edinboro team celebrated Homecoming with a 28-25 win over Mercyhurst. Three Mercyhurst fumbles led to short drives, and redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Tomko guided the Fighting Scots on a 75-yard drive. Making his first career start, Tomko scored on a pair of three-yard runs. Walter Fletcher accounted for the other two scores on touchdown runs of 10 and one-yard runs. Fletcher finished with his fifth 100-yard game of the season with 132 yards. The defense limited Mercyhurst to 285 yards, with Edinboro finishing with a season-low 231 yards in total offense.

Rollin' for Relief was organized by the wheelchair basketball team to help support the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas. Over $1,000 was raised at the October 11th event for the cause.
