Women's Swimming Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its Fall 2018 Scholar All-America Teams today. The Edinboro University women's swimming team was honored for achieving a cumulative 3.17 grade point average during the fall semester.

(15-0, 10-0 PSAC West) Location:  Indiana, Pa. – Kovalchick Complex The Short Story:  Monday's contest pinned the top two scoring offenses in the PSAC with Indiana(Pa.) ranked first and Edinboro in second. The Fighting Scots scored the first basket of the game, but could not overcome the top ranked team in Division II and its second-ranked ranked scoring defense. The Crimson Hawks connected on seven 3-pointers in the first quarter and led 31-15 after 10 minutes. The Fighting Scots struggled to make their baskets in the first and second quarter, shooting 32.3 percent (10-of-31). Edinboro trimmed IUP's lead to 13 points midway through the third period, but that's as close the Scots came to the rest of the game. Michaela Barnes paced Edinboro with 23 points, while Ciara Rosten and Jontay Walton scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. IUP is ranked first in the WBCA Division II Top 25. Monday's contest was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 19, but was postponed due to Winter Storm Harper.

THE RUNDOWN Score: Gannon 130, Edinboro 125 Location: Erie, Pa. – Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool The Short Story: Two pool records at Gannon's Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool were broken by Edinboro's 200-yard Freestyle and Medley Relay teams. The outcome of Friday's meet came down to the final event, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Down 114-126, Casey Tokarski, Kaitlyn Daiger, Nicole Kadlecik, and Katelyn Kopacko anchored the Fighting Scots to first place with a time of 1:39.20 and 11 points. But the Lady Knights captured the remaining six available points with two other relay teams capturing second and third place, respectively. The Fighting Scot were victorious in six events, collected 21 medals overall, and had 13 PSAC Championship qualifying times.

Of the seven times recorded, sophomore Michael Kocher was responsible for three of them. The Fighting Scots fall to Kocher won the 200-yard Backstroke with a time of 1:59.17. The only other Scot to capture gold was Nick Bradford who finished first in the 100-yard Breaststroke at 1:03.24. Overall, Edinboro ended the night with 13 medals.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team saw bonus point wins from Carmine Ciotti (141 lbs.), Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.) and Jon Spaulding (285 lbs.) as the Fighting Scots picked up a 24-13 win over visiting Cleveland State Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro improved to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the EWL as the Vikings fell to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the EWL.
