Mr. James Felton will discuss his work with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) Initiative at SUNY Cortland which supports the campus mission of creating diverse learning experiences by promoting instructional practices that are responsive to the needs of all students. Their work is grounded in the idea that culture is shaped by our lived and social experiences; culture is ever-present in our beliefs, values and expectations, and can have a significant impact on teaching and learning. In order to foster classroom environments of mutual respect where all are valued, SUNY Cortland’s CRT Initiative offers sustained professional development opportunities that address access to curricula & inclusive pedagogical approaches.

We are excited that you are considering applying to be a member of the Residence Life & Housing Team for the 2020-2021 Academic Year! Resident Assistants oversee the residential students and promote campus involvement through the new RLH Community Development Plan. The RA serves as a role model who is approachable and accessible to students in the residence halls and throughout the campus community. Resident Assistants must have a thorough knowledge of the campus and its services in order to serve as a resource and referral agent for students. The individual provides proactive leadership for resident students to develop and maintain an environment where they (1) feel a sense of belonging to the Edinboro University family; (2) are respected by fellow residents and university personnel, (3) and are safe, comfortable, and secure in their living quarters. The RA position is an appointment period of one academic year and building placement is based on residential and departmental needs. The RA must reside on-campus. In order to be considered in our process every potential candidate must attend one of the many Interest Sessions offered from 10/28 to 12/11. The position description and expectations of the RA will be provided at the Interest Session. We will also discuss the timeline and requirements of RA Selection process. First-generation students bring many unique strengths to the campus community, including grit, resilience and determination. We are celebrating the accomplishments of our first-generation students and alumni through the new “I’m First” Alumni Speaker Series!

Join us in the Learning Commons classroom from 12:00 – 1:00 pm to learn about the journeys of some of our most successful and interesting first-generation alumni. All students, faculty and staff are welcome, and lunch is included for free.

November 1: Fred Hodges ’11, M’14
Fred is the director for the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Robert Morris University and will speak about how to thrive as a college student and young professional from a first-generation perspective.
