Boro honors longtime cross country, track coach

Alumni event set for Watts

From an EUP news release

Edinboro University will honor longtime cross country and track and field head coach Doug Watts with an alumni event on Aug. 23. The event will begin with an alumni cross country race, followed by a chicken barbeque lunch and social. Watts retired in 2013 after 44 years of service at Edinboro, where he coached over 200 All-Americans.

The alumni race begins at 10 a.m. at the Doug Watts Cross Country Course behind Lawrence Towers. A chicken barbeque luncheon will follow on the McComb Fieldhouse lawn at 12:30 p.m., and the day will conclude with a social, beginning at 4 p.m. at Culbertson Hills Golf Resort.

According to gofightingscots.com, "Edinboro cross country set the standard of excellence in the region under Watts. His men's teams won 29 PSAC championships and 22 regional titles, with four cross country national champions. On the women's side, his teams finished in the top five at Nationals on five occasions, including a second place showing in 2004, along with 15 PSAC crowns and 11 regional titles."
