For six days in October, the playful spirit and serious themes of J.K. Rowling’s tremendously popular Harry Potter books will be celebrated and explored during the fourth annual Edinboro Potterfest.

A cooperative effort of Edinboro University and the wider community, Potterfest will be observed with numerous events scheduled Oct. 13 through Oct. 18.

On the Edinboro campus, activities will include the Potterbowl Trivia contest in three age groups, Quidditch competition, a performance of Harry Potter Movie Music by the Edinboro University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Edinboro University Singers, and The Hallows Ball. The Ravenclaw Conference, an academic exploration of the Harry Potter books and their themes, will feature a keynote address by Dr. Lana Whited, professor of English at Ferrum College in Virginia and editor of the book “The Ivory Tower and Harry Potter: Perspectives on a Literary Phenomenon.” Whited will speak on Friday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. in Benjamin Wiley Arts and Sciences Center in Room 117.

A family favorite from past Potterfests, A Day at the Castle, returns on Saturday, Oct 18, at 10 a.m. in Miller Center of the Edinboro campus.

In the community, various businesses will be making their stores look Potteresque, as well as offering pricing specials and Harry Potter-themed merchandise.
